A practical B2B digital strategy: connect discovery, conversion and follow-up

Connect the whole customer journey
Referrals and individual campaigns can bring valuable opportunities. The difficulty starts when the business has no consistent way to qualify an inquiry, assign an owner and agree on the next step. A digital strategy should make those connections explicit.
For a B2B service business, that means coordinating three areas: how people discover you, how the website helps them evaluate your work, and how the team manages the conversation afterward.
What a practical digital strategy includes
- Attraction: relevant search topics, useful content, professional relationships and selected channels.
- Conversion: clear service pages, credible project examples and an appropriate way to contact the team.
- Follow-up: a CRM with ownership, meaningful stages and a record of the next action.
Improving only one area can leave the real problem untouched. More traffic will not resolve an unanswered inbox. A new CRM will not explain an unclear offer.
Five decisions to make before choosing tools
1. Define the customer and buying situation
Describe the type of business, the people involved in the decision, the problem they need to solve and the constraints they face. Use real conversations with customers to test those assumptions.
2. State the value in concrete terms
Explain what will change in the customer’s day-to-day work. “Connect website inquiries to an assigned owner in Odoo” is more useful than a broad promise to transform the business. Support claims with evidence you can show.
3. Give each important service a useful page
Explain the problem, the scope of the work, the process and the questions buyers usually ask. Link relevant articles to these pages and make the next step easy to find.
4. Build a search and content plan
Choose topics that match actual customer questions. Review technical accessibility, mobile usability and internal navigation alongside the copy. Publishing more pages is not a substitute for making existing ones useful.
5. Agree on what happens after an inquiry
Define assignment, response expectations, qualification criteria and follow-up responsibilities. Automate repetitive steps only after the team agrees on the process.
Measure the path to a qualified opportunity
Track inquiries by source, the share that match your target customer, response time, stage progression and sales-cycle duration. Define each measure consistently. A website conversion rate is the number of relevant conversions divided by visits or sessions, multiplied by 100; use the same denominator when comparing periods.
Set a baseline before changing the system. Results depend on the market, offer, starting point and execution; there is no universal timetable or conversion target.
Where to start
Choose the most costly gap in the current journey. It might be an unclear service page, a broken form or opportunities without an owner. Fix that gap, verify the result and use what you learn to set the next priority.
